If you’re interested in creating your own spirit, we’ve answered some of the most common questions below to give you a better idea of what to expect when working with us.

General FAQ's

We are based at Hensol Castle, Junction 34 off the M4, only 15 minutes from Cardiff. Hensol Castle Park, Hensol, Vale of Glamorgan, CF72 8JX

As well as our classic Welsh Dry Gin, we have Wild Strawberry and Hibiscus, Black Gin (Berry, Cherry & Muscat) and Blood Orange Zest. You can shop all of our Gins online here!

Yes we do make Rum as well as Gin, we offer Spiced Rum and Cherry Spiced Rum and you can buy these from our online shop here!

The distillery can be visited as part of one of our bookable Spirits Experiences. These experiences give you the opportunity to explore the distillery, learn about the production process and discover more about our spirits.

As the distillery is a working production facility, we’re unable to allow visitors to explore the area independently or without a pre-booked experience.

Yes, we have ample parking available for guests at Hensol Castle, with up to 250 spaces available.

You are able to purchase any of our Spirits from our Hensol Castle Distillery online shop. You’ll also find selected Hensol Castle products at major supermarkets across the region including Tesco and ASDA.

Contract Bottling FAQ's

We can source spirits from all over the world, from Vodka to Tequila and everything in between! If you’re looking for something specific, just let us know and we’ll do our best to source it for you.

Our minimum order quantities start from 1,000 litres for small-batch production and 2,500 litres for larger-scale production. If you have a specific volume in mind, get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss your requirements.

We can produce up to 20,000 bottles per day on a single shift. Our maximum yearly capacity is 10 million!

 

The licenses that you need will depend on how you plan to bring your products to market. This may include an AWRS (Alcohol Wholesaler Registration Scheme) approval or Premises Licence.

 

For new startups, we recommend allowing a minimum of 6-9 months from the initial development through to finalised product. For established brands, we can work to a shorter lead time of around 6 weeks, depending on the project and production requirements.

We can consult on various obstacles, or we can recommend a consultant for complete startups.

We can provide you with our recommended supply chain partners, helping to make the process as simple and straightforward as possible for you.

Absolutely, we offer a bespoke new product development service, working with you to create and refine your recipe into a finished product that’s ready for production. 

Every bottle, spirit and production method is different. We can offer you a quote once your wet and dry goods choices are finalised.

Warehousing FAQ

We offer short term storage prior and post production, but we can recommend you our long-term storage & 3PL partners.

We can support storage of dry goods, bonded wet goods and finished products, subject to your specific requirements.

Yes, finished products can be stored before onward distribution.

We are! We will produce your products under bond and can transfer your products to other bonded storage facilities.

Yes, dry goods such as bottles and packaging can be accommodated.

Yes. Our storage facilities sit alongside our production and bottling operation, allowing us to support more of your supply chain in one place.

We can support distribution directly to customers, wholesalers or retailers depending on your requirements.

Tender Work FAQ's

Every project is different, so turnaround depends on the specification, volume and requirements. We’ll discuss your timelines at the outset and build a production plan around them.

We work across a broad range including gin, rum, vodka, whisky, liqueurs, cocktails/RTDs, tequila, soju/sochu and sake.

Yes. Our team can develop recipes across different spirit categories, working with you to create a flavour profile and product that meets your brief.

Yes. We can help source both wet and dry goods through our network of industry suppliers.

Yes. We’ll work with you to develop a competitive pricing approach that reflects your specification, volumes and tender requirements.

Yes. Alongside our larger production capabilities, Hensol Castle Distillery has specialist small-batch facilities designed to support smaller and bespoke production runs.

We don’t currently have an in-house canning facility, but we can refer you to leading canning facilities where appropriate.
