Sustainability at Hensol Castle Distillery: Distilling with the Future in Mind
Blog28 AUG '26
At Hensol Castle Distillery, sustainability isn’t something we simply talk about; it’s part of how we operate every day.
From reducing waste and protecting biodiversity to investing in renewable energy and responsible water management, we’re continually looking for ways to make our processes more efficient while caring for the environment around us.
Reducing Waste, Reusing Resources
Waste reduction is a key part of our approach. Across our sites, comprehensive recycling and waste segregation systems help us minimise what goes to landfill, while garden and botanical waste is composted on-site. By turning natural by-products into something useful, we can reduce waste and give materials a second life.
Supporting Nature and Biodiversity
Our 800-acre Resort is home to a diverse range of habitats and protected species. Over the past 30 years, we’ve planted more than 30,000 trees across the Estate, helping to support biodiversity while contributing to our efforts to offset our carbon footprint.
Our active ecology management plan also helps us protect and nurture the natural environment, encouraging a healthy balance between our operations and the wildlife around us.
Responsible Use of Water and Energy
Water is an important natural resource at Hensol Castle Distillery. Two boreholes and a natural spring supply the distillery, while our lakes and 20-acre reservoir help manage rainfall and protect the River Ely.
We’re also investing heavily in energy efficiency. Solar panels provide renewable energy to our hotel and leisure facilities, while air source heat pumps have supported heating and cooling for more than 20 years. Our ongoing programme of upgrades includes LED lighting, modern equipment and heat exchangers, all helping us reduce energy consumption.
Quality at Every Stage
Our commitment to responsible production goes hand in hand with our commitment to quality. Hensol Castle Distillery proudly holds BRCGS Double A Grade Accreditation, an internationally recognised benchmark for food and drink manufacturing.
For us, sustainability is about continuous improvement. We know there is always more we can do, and we’re committed to finding new ways to reduce our environmental impact while continuing to produce quality spirits for our customers and partners.
